Augusta Systems Awarded $2.4M Contract for Sensor Systems
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Augusta Systems, a provider of sensor system technologies, was awarded a $2.4
million contract to assist the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) with development and management
of small robotic vehicle sensor systems featuring advanced control algorithms.
“Unmanned vehicles are essentially mobile sensor systems. In order for small unmanned systems to
achieve maximum mission performance, they need effective sensor data alignment, processing and
transmission,” said Patrick Esposito II, chief operating officer of Augusta Systems. “We are pleased to
assist the Navy in its efforts to increase the capabilities of these robotic vehicles.”
Augusta Systems will provide technologies that deliver at-point sensor processing, at-point data
filtering, resilient communications and rapid data alignment from diverse sensor sources. The company
will assist the Navy with efforts to enhance the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
capabilities of unmanned systems, including the ability to achieve coordinated behavior -- that is, to
operate in unison independent of operator control.
“Multiple unmanned vehicles, when linked in a cooperative fashion, operate like a mobile sensor
network gathering, processing and sharing information. Our sensor system enabling technologies can help
individual vehicles as well as the entire sensor network to operate in an efficient and effective
manner,” said John Moody, vice president of systems engineering for Augusta Systems.
Subcontractors to Augusta Systems on the effort include AAI Corporation, a United Industrial
Corporation (NYSE: UIC) subsidiary; NewVectors LLC, a for-profit subsidiary of Altarum Institute; West
Virginia University and West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Last year, Augusta Systems was awarded a $750,000 contract from NAVAIR for related work to improve
the ability of unmanned vehicle sensor systems to locate and recognize objects, an achievement known as
automatic target recognition.
About Augusta Systems:
Augusta Systems, Inc. (Augusta Systems) provides sensor system technologies. These sensor
enabling technologies assist business, industry and government with managing the data overload resulting
from wide-scale sensor deployments for security, asset tracking and monitoring. The company’s flagship
technology is SensorBridge, a development platform for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 featuring authoring
tools and run-time components, that enables rapid integration of diverse sensor data into existing
systems, streamlined development of new sensor systems and applications, and flexible management of
sensor systems and networks. Other products include sensor processing and aggregation technologies.
These technologies enable sensors and sensor networks, wireless sensors and wireless sensor networks,
RFID systems, IPv6 and netcentric systems, physical/IT security convergence and more.
