MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Augusta Systems Inc., a provider of technologies that power the intelligent convergence of devices, systems and networks, has released a new version of EdgeFrontier, its middleware platform for integration and policy management.

With the release of EdgeFrontier version 5.0, enterprises and integrators now can deploy EdgeFrontier on network devices capable of supporting the Mono framework and the GNOME desktop environment, as well as other Linux configurations. Enterprises and integrators can also continue to deploy EdgeFrontier on network devices that support Microsoft .NET Framework (versions 3.5 and higher).

As a companion to the release of EdgeFrontier version 5.0, Augusta Systems also has released a new version of EdgeFrontier Appliance featuring openSUSE as a Linux operating system option. EdgeFrontier Appliance is a network appliance from Augusta Systems pre-installed with EdgeFrontier middleware.

“EdgeFrontier is extremely flexible in its ability to converge data, events and control functions from different sources,” said Patrick Esposito, president and chief executive officer of Augusta Systems. “These product upgrades extend that flexibility to EdgeFrontier’s options in terms of operating systems and hardware. Routers, gateways, servers, workstations, PCs and other network devices utilizing different frameworks and operating systems can now serve as platforms for distributed integration and policy management through EdgeFrontier.”

EdgeFrontier products support integration and normalization of data, events and control functions from diverse devices, systems and networks, regardless of manufacturer or communications protocol. These data sources include sensors, wireless sensor networks, RFID systems, video devices and systems, access control systems, metering and measurement devices, actuators, databases and file repositories and others. Additionally, the products provide structures for event processing and configuration of event or policy-based actions through a policy engine.

EdgeFrontier has been utilized in numerous safety and security deployments, including local emergency response, port and border security, military surveillance, school campus security and health industry security; in electricity industry smart grid efforts; in government and private sector-asset tracking; and in other monitoring and automation efforts. EdgeFrontier’s award-winning data integration and policy management capabilities have also earned Augusta Systems past recognition as a member of the M2M 100, a list of the top machine-to-machine technology providers in America; as Frost and Sullivan’s Global Sensors Emerging Company of the Year, and as a member of the Inc. 500.

“Through the upgrades to EdgeFrontier, we have expanded our capability for further product deployments in safety and security, smart grid and other markets,” Esposito said. “These new options reinforce EdgeFrontier’s position as the premier middleware platform for the intelligent convergence of devices, systems and networks.”
